New York University student Cameron Deahl plans to pursue a career in the entertainment industry after graduating with a degree in business and marketing. In his free time, Cameron Deahl enjoys attending plays, watching baseball, and listening to music. He lists Kanye West, Drake, and Chance the Rapper among his favorite artists.
An award-winning rapper, songwriter, and producer, Chance the Rapper has released three albums, including 2016’s Coloring Book, which made history as the first streaming-only album to receive a Grammy nomination. Alongside his work as a performer, the 24-year-old Chicago native, whose birth name is Chancelor Bennett, has dedicated much of his time and resources to initiatives supporting the greater Chicago community.
In March of 2017, Chance the Rapper donated $1 million to support arts programming in the Chicago Public Schools, a move he described as a “call to action” for local business and nonprofit leaders. Soon after, the Chicago Bulls responded to this call by matching the donation with a $1 million check of their own. Chance continues to raise funds for the 2017-2018 school year through his nonprofit group Social Works and its New Chance Arts and Literature Fund.
To date, Chance the Rapper and Social Works have raised $2.2 million dollars for the Chicago Public Schools. The money will be used to help schools launch new arts programs or reinstate those that had been cut due to a freeze on principals’ discretionary spending. The New Chance Arts and Literature Fund will specifically target schools that have experienced a decrease in graduation rates over the last five years.
